Scotland’s Big Nature Festival

This massively popular family-friendly event, now in its fifth year, returns to Levenhall Links, at Musselburgh, East Lothian, which is an important site for birdwatchers in its own right. Talks by experts and adventurers, bird-ringing sessions, photography workshops, optics demonstrations, book signings, as well as guided walks round the lagoons, which are home to countless waders and ducks. The best in food, drink and entertainment will all be on hand, and hopefully the weather will be kind. A day ticket costs £12, a weekend pass £20 (£10 and £18 for RSPB members), while under-fives get in free and children aged 5-17 for £2. Photograph: Martin Mallett
