Back by popular demand, this is a cycling road race that takes riders on a stunning route around the Fort William area. You’ll need to be pretty fit, as there is some serious hill climbing involved, but you will be rewarded with some breathtaking views over to the isles of Eigg, Rhum and Muck. See website for more details.
This multi-stage running event is an offshoot of the Fort William Mountain Festival, and the inaugural race went down very well with the 100-plus runners who braved the snow to take part. It’s a chance to run 20k over some great trails, with only certain timed sections, totalling 11k, counting towards your final time. Between the timed stages, you can walk, jog, regroup with friends and have a chat – it’s up to you. Chip timing means everyone can start each stage whenever they’re ready, and there’s none of the pressure of a mass start, with runners being set off every 30 seconds or so.
