Atomic Doric 2013

Now this one really does sound inspirational. The landscape of the Cairngorms, Deeside and Aberdeenshire can have a profound impact on anyone experiencing it – and a group of film-makers, musicians and contemporary dancers have joined forces for a three-day festival of performances inspired by this part of Scotland. The weekend kicks off with a showing of four short films by Chris Dooks entitled Tiny Geographies. They are his response to St Cyrus, Muir of Dinnet, Mar Lodge Estate and Glen Tanar Estate. This is followed by a concert in which Drew Wright, aka Wounded Knee, performs new works inspired by the landscape of Mar Lodge and the writings of Nan Shepherd. Equally unusual artistic events follow on days two and three, culminating in a ceilidh. For details of prices, times and venues see website. Most events are at Woodend Barn, Banchory, with final performance and ceilidh at the Glen Tanar Ballroom, Aboyne.
