Dundee Mountain Film Festival

Inspiration by the bucket load for all who love the mountains, over two evenings and a full day. It showcases an international programme of speakers, as well as award winning films and exhibitions, held at the Bonar Hall, Dundee. Speakers this year include Jamie Andrew, Felicity Aston and Andy Kirkpatrick.

John Muir Wildlife & Ecology Film Festival

This film festival takes place in Helensburgh, the start (or finish) of the John Muir Way depending on how you choose to walk it. Focusing on new films about wildlife and ecology, the festival awards prizes to young filmmakers. The programme is still being decided for the 2016 event. See their Facebook page for more details.

International Ocean Film Tour

From the people who brought you the Banff Mountain Film Festival UK, comes a fantastic film fest devoted to all things oceanic. Playing at venues all over the UK during March, it’s only in Scotland for two nights, so if this is your thing, book early.

Most of the films are between ten and 30 minutes long, but all capture the thrill of the sea through surfing, diving, rowing and fishing.

Adventure Film Festival

Programme two of this three day adventure film festival at the Filmhouse, Edinburgh. There are three films showing. Byornoya follows three brothers on a surfing trip in Norway, while Burn it Down, at just 4 minutes, captures longboarder James Kelly hurtling around Californian roads. Third on the bill is The Last Explorers of the Rio Santa Cruz. This documents an incredible journey on horseback along the famous river.

Adventure Film Festival

Programme one of this three day adventure film festival in Edinburgh. Showing tonight is Chasing Shadows – a winter sports movie encapsulating all that is exciting about snowboarding. Set in mountain ranges as diverse as Chamonix and the Himalayas.

Mar Lodge Mountain Film Festival

Back again for the second year – now over two days – and what better place to see some adventure films with a mountain theme than Mar Lodge – the former hunting pile now in the hands of the National Trust for Scotland.

There are five films on offer over the two days:

• Citadel
• Late
• A bit like Norway
• Valley Uprising
• Stone Free

Films will be shown in the Craggan Room, and refreshments will be served. Call venue for more information. Tickets from Braemar Mountain Shop, Ballater Outdoor Store and Mar Lodge Ranger Office.

Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival 2016

Adventures from all around the world are featured in a superb film programme. This year’s guest speakers include mountaineer Andy Kirkpatrick (who also does stand-up), climber Dave MacLeod, photographer John Griffith and mountain biker Lee Craigie.
