Cream o’ the Croft – Mountain Biking Festival

Scotland’s only dedicated mountain biking festival is being held at the award-winning Comrie Croft Trail Centre in Perthshire. The main event of the weekend is a MTB championship, consisting of several challenging rounds, with the overall winner claiming the title of ‘The Cream o’ the Croft’. There’s also a ‘Funduro’ – an 8-stage mashup enduro – in the words of the organisers! There will be eight timed stages, with classes from teens to veterans, and 200 places available, it should attract a great crowd. In addition to the mountain biking activities, the family-friendly camping weekend will also feature live music, locally sourced food and drink, a craft fair and many more activities to suit everyone.

Angus Glens Walking Festival 2016

This great festival, now in its 14th year, has something for every walker, whatever their fitness level or area of interest. If you’re used to walking alone or in a couple, why not try it with a like-minded group of enthusiasts, and perhaps make some new friends for life? Options range from Jock’s Road, one of Scotland’s most ancient rights of way, from Braemar to Glen Doll, to a Stalker Outing, where you may spot red deer in Glen Esk. There’s a walk in Glen Clova with a real chance of seeing golden eagles, and a “wild food forage” sampling edible and medicinal plants around Forfar Loch. And legs are for dancing, too – so there’s a ceilidh on the Saturday night.

Isle of Arran Mountain Festival

Few places in Scotland cram so much scenery into such a small space as Arran – and for every hilltop there’s a sea view. This four-day festival incorporates the Goatfell Hill Race as well as a great variety of walks, some with the chance of a dip to cool off. A talk, a quiz, a wildlife trip and general socialising are all in the mix, too. Walks start and finish at Arran Adventure Cabin, in Brodick, beside Auchrannie Resort, times and prices vary.
