For the third time, the fittest of the fit will head for Torridon to swim 3k or more in Loch Shieldaig, cycle more than 200k on exceedingly up and down roads then run 42k over two Munros, Spidean Coire nan Clach and Ruadh-stac Mor. Not one to enter on the spur of the moment.

Making a welcome return to Edinburgh, this gruelling uphill eliminator race is open to anyone with a bike â€“ fixie, racer, BMX or mountain. A fiver (which goes to charity) gets you among the 500 qualifiers. These are whittled down to just 30, through a series of knockout rounds that take place throughout the day. If successful, you get the chance to compete against 10 of the top cyclists in the UK in the actual hillclimb. It will be an adrenaline-fuelled sprint to the top, and you have the chance to win the coveted King of the Hill!
