dhb have introduced a new collection of winter cycling kit including the Blok Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey.
I have been impressed by Wiggle’s own-brand dhb cycle clothing over the past year of testing. It’s very affordable and good quality with some really nice design features.
In fact, their spring and summer ranges proved to be as good as some other brands that are far more expensive and I now choose my dhb bibbed shorts and tops as favourites from my large drawer of cycling kit.
The own-brand autumn/winter 2015/16 collection has been launched recently and I was interested to see if the quality was as good. I am pleased to say it does seem to be. Obviously, I’ve not tested it for as long as I’ve had the summer kit but it’s a similar styling, design and fabrics.
The dhb Blok Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey is made in both men and women’s fit and in three designs and two different colourways. (Are you keeping up?) The three designs are all based on the dhb “plus†motif.
The dhb Blok Micro Roubaix jersey has smaller plus signs, the Blok Macro Roubaix has a much larger plus design while the Blok Meso is somewhere in the middle. They all look striking.
The colourways include black, coral and blue and navy, yellow and turquoise for women and orange, black and navy and navy, yellow and black for men.
There’s also a similar collection of Classic print jerseys in simpler colours and patterns.
It’s quite a lot to take in but if you like your cycling clothing to match beautifully dhb has it all and if you prefer to mix-and-match with other brands and plain blacks there’s a lot to chose from.

On test: dhb Blok Roubaix Long Sleeve Jersey
The fit is neat and athletic so if you like your cycle clothing to be a bit roomier go up a size. Wiggle offer a free returns service, which means you can try it on and then return if it’s not right.
The fabric of the jersey not only looks good – with a great choice of colourful and striking designs – but it also feels lovely. It’s smooth on the outside and lightly fleecy on the inside. This a perfect lightweight jersey for cooler weather.
However, for days when it’s a bit chilly I would wear a thin baselayer followed by a dhb short-sleeved jersey and then the long-sleeved Block jersey on top. If rain comes, I’d add a lightweight waterproof.
As you would expect, the jersey has useful back pockets, three in total, and the addition of the zipped secure pocket for valuables, such as a car key or debit card, is welcomed.
I also like the chin guard on the zip. When fully zipped up the chin guard stops any annoying rubbing of the zip on face skin.
The torso and arms length are perfect. I am quite tall with long arms but the women’s small is long enough in both areas. The silicone gripper helps to keep the bottom hem of the jersey nicely in place. If it wasn’t for this the jersey would ride up at the back.
The jersey is fairly windproof although not hugely so. I think this is fine for cool but not freezing cold days. Add a gillet or a thicker jersey for days of very cold temperatures. It’s a jersey that is great for late summer, autumn and milder winter days.
I do object to the term “wickingâ€. No fabric will actually wick away your sweat. What is does is allow sweat to evaporate through the fabric. The fact that the fabric is breathable helps immensely with this.
Also, what does “performance-level” kit mean? Everyone performs at different levels. I presume this means it’s for people who like their bikes and also enjoy riding in events and longer distances.
The most impressive thing about the jersey is actually the price. Its list price is £45 and Wiggle are selling it for £42.75 at the moment. For a product of such good quality and features this is an extremely reasonable outlay.
Of course, only time and wear will be able to prove how long this jersey lasts. I have worn my dhb bibbed shorts and summer jersey for hundreds of miles and they still look great and hold their shape. Let’s hope the winter collection does the same.
