Sam Christopherson from C2C Surf School shares a snapshot and gives us an insight into the where and when it was taken
This photo was taken on a tour we did to the west coast islands. We had lovely weather and OK surf in the 2-3ft range for the first four days when all the surf forecast charts started to predict a perfect long-distance hurricane swell.
On the Friday the swell hit, giving powerful head-high waves, with massive gaps of more than 22 seconds between each wave. The next morning we woke early to see sunshine and 6-8ft pulsing offshore surf with 17-19 second gaps. It was absolute perfection and all of our group surfed for more than eight hours throughout the day. By the time we packed up, tired and happy, some could barely move. All that remained was to sit by the beach fire and enjoy the sunset.
