Richard Rowe enjoys a few days with friends and family camping in East Lothian.
Although the tent pitches are packed in as close together as a row of Benidorm sun-loungers, we really enjoyed our recent stay at this friendly holiday park.
It’s ideal for those looking for a hassle-free camping experience, particularly if camping with youngsters for the first time (as was the case with one of our party).
Although busy, the site itself is clean, safe for kids and wonderfully located just behind the wide open sands of Belhaven Bay.
The pretty town of Dunbar is just a short walk along the coast (or a two-minute drive by car) and has plenty to offer, from surfing and stand-up paddle boarding with Coast to Coast Surf School to exploring the adjacent John Muir Country Park (now the end point of the new John Muir Way – named after the founding father of the US National Park movement who was born in Dunbar).
Also nearby is the outstanding East Links Family Park; we spent a good four hours there on the Sunday and still didn’t get to see everything (although did have an amusing encounter with a llama).
