Did you see the runners taking part – and clearly enjoying – the Glencoe Marathon on the BBC’s Adventure Show back in December? Plenty of people I know have been commenting about how great the event looked and how they fancy taking part in 2014.

I might even sign up for it myself. I have been building up my running distances over the last few months and I’m greatly enjoying the pace and scenery on longer tail runs.

What is the Glencoe Marathon Gathering?

The Gathering comprises the Glencoe Marathon of 26.2 miles, and also the Mamores Half Marathon and the Glen Nevis 10k on the same day, 5 October 2014.

The full off-road marathon follows a fabulous Highlands route through the heart of Glencoe, including the 500m Devil’s Staircase, and into the foothills of Ben Nevis. The marathon’s total ascent is 1,608m.

Billed as Scotland’s toughest marathon the event is organised by WildFox and the Gathering in 2013 attracted more than 200 runners.

The fastest time for the marathon is an awesome 3hrs, 44 mins  and 50 secs set by Alan Ross in 2013.
