Ten pupils drawn from five Edinburgh comprehensive secondary schools are preparing for an epic life changing expedition to Arctic Greenland next March following their selection by a ground breaking charity, The Polar Academy. The pupils, from St Augustine’s, Liberton, Gracemount, Forrester and Tynecastle High schools will face temperatures below -20C and need to haul their own 45kg sledges as they navigate across sea ice and through remote mountain passes on x-country skis.

Supported by Tiso, Bergans of Norway, CBS Ltd and City of Edinburgh Council, the team will depart on 25 March next year.

On Tuesday 25 August (7pm), the founder of the charity Craig Mathieson will give a public presentation about the Polar Academy and his previous expeditions at Tiso Edinburgh Outdoor Experience in Leith. The explorer will be joined by pupils selected for the 2016 expedition and several from North Lanarkshire who earlier this year completed the first Polar Academy expedition.

Entry to the presentation is free and spaces are limited. To reserve, please contact Tiso Edinburgh Outdoor Experience or visit www.tiso.com
