If you’ve never tried open water swimming, this is the ideal opportunity. It’s a great occasion, with a lively atmosphere as Loch Lomond Shores, with its shops, stalls and cafes, fills with wetsuit-clad swimmers looking apprehensive as they contemplate entering the water. There is a choice of distances – half a mile, one mile, two miles and 5k priced at £23, £30, £34 and £36 respectively. Whichever you opt for, the route is clearly marked and there are plenty of kayakers keeping an eye on you, so even first-timers feel safe. The warm-up’s fun, too.
