The Old Ways, A Journey on Foot
by Robert Macfarlane – Reviewed by Scotland Outdoors
Robert Macfarlane’s exquisite, scholarly prose has won him many admirers with this, the third in a loose trilogy about people, places and the landscapes we inhabit, only likely to gain him many more. Following in the footsteps of the acclaimed Mountains of the Mind and The Wild Places, The Old Ways sees the author embark once more on a series of journeys, this time exploring the network of ancient routes and seaways that criss-cross the British landscape and which tie us with distant lands. It’s another deeply thoughtful piece of work.
