A Saga of Sea Eagles by John A Love

The re-introduction of sea eagles is a great conservation success story, and John Love has played a vital role in it since the 1960s. He is an expert on the subject, but has chosen to write a memoir rather than a scientific report, and the result is superb. His book is full of anecdotes, humour, vivid personalities and dramatic places – St Kilda, Rum and Fair Isle all feature. It is on the latter that he describes the much anticipated release of a female sea eagle from Norway: “With a seeming flair for anticlimax, Ingrid decided to walk to freedom and would spend the next 30 minutes scaling a small hillock.”
